Dear Stakeholders,

Encountering the evolving social needs and climate uncertainties, and the prolonged impacts of COVID-19, we stay dedicated to creating better and more liveable places and serving the communities guided by our Triple Bottom Line —People, Prosperity and Planet. Driven by the endeavours and positive mindset of our leadership team and colleagues, we have accelerated incorporating sustainability elements into the Group’s business and operations. We have achieved numerous successes.

In FY2021/22, we shouldered up our efforts in cultural heritage revitalisation and conservation. We have taken up the operation and management of the Central Market Revitalisation Project by embodying the three key themes - “Approachable, Energetic and Gregarious” to reimagine it as a “Playground for All”, incorporating entertainment, leisure and cultural elements. We also funded the Lai Chi Wo Story Room and collaborated with the Government’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the Lions Nature Education Foundation and Lai Chi Wo Pui Shing Tong to conserve and promote our intangible cultural heritage and share the story of Hakka culture with future generations.

Climate change presents an urgent challenge, its effects are already being felt. We recognise that reducing our operational carbon emissions is one of the most effective ways to make a genuine impact on mitigating climate change. Hence, we conducted a climate risk assessment in FY2021/22 and will continue enhancing colleagues’ climate change literacy. We are also thrilled to have published a new sustainability roadmap, the “Chinachem Group Carbon Reduction Roadmap - CCG 3050+”, to strengthen our commitment by reducing our carbon emissions by 51.8% in 2030 compared to the base year of 2020. We are the second real estate developer in Hong Kong to have 1.5°C-aligned Science Based Targets (SBTs) approved. We will continue to expand our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We will diversify our business by extending our business landscape, including healthcare, elderly care, a green data centre and logistics businesses to build prosperous communities. We will persevere with our sustainability determination to create a better, greener future for Hong Kong.

In closing, I extend my appreciation to our colleagues, customers, tenants, partners and other stakeholders for their continued support and dedication to our sustainability journey. We look forward to sharing more about our sustainability initiatives in next year’s Report.
